I just wanted to let you know I have my hands on a RED camera. If you aren’t familiar with it, suffice to know that the death knell for 35mm film is ringing loudly. I’ve been shooting film my whole career, and what I’ve experienced with the RED camera is phenomenal. In short the RED is many generations and quality levels above any existing video camera. With it’s 4,000 horizontal pixels (4k in the industry), you have a monstrous sized image to manipulate. Using 35mm prime lenses, a director of photography has a huge palette of options to work with, including gorgeous slow-mo.

I recently shot as a DP for a large company using this camera. The main client and their client were drooling at the imagery.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I have sought-after anamorphic lenses that allow you to shoot even wider that 16x9 and have a beautiful depth of field you see in motion pictures.
